Pickup trucks and SUVs are vehicles built for the long haul.

In fact, the top vehicles lasting 250,000 miles or more – and 24 of the top 30 longest-lasting vehicles – are all pickup trucks and SUVs. This is according to a recent study released by online automotive research website iSeeCars.com.

The SUV parade is led by a trio of Toyotas with the Toyota Sequoia, 4Runner and Highlander Hybrid making up three of the top five.

The 11th anniversary iSeeCars.com study analyzed more than 402 million vehicles to determine which models best demonstrate longevity and reliability with the highest percentage of cars reaching 250,000 miles.

Following are the top 10 longest-lasting vehicles and percentage chance of lasting at least 250,000 miles:

Longest-lasting cars, trucks and SUVs

  1. Toyota Tundra, 36.6%
  2. Toyota Sequoia, 36.4%
  3. Toyota 4Runner, 26.8%
  4. Toyota Tacoma, 26.7%
  5. Toyota Highlander Hybrid, 25.9%
  6. Honda Ridgeline, 25.8%
  7. Chevrolet Suburban, 22.0%
  8. Toyota Avalon, 22.0%
  9. Lexus GX, 20.7%
  10. Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 18.8%

While the Toyota Tundra took the top spot, there’s no denying the fact that SUVs are dominating the latest top 10 list with the Chevrolet Suburban at No. 7 and Lexus GX at No. 9 following the already mentioned Toyotas to round out the list.

“Modern vehicles are getting more durable, with 30 models offering between a 12% and 36% chance of reaching a quarter million miles,” said iSeeCars.com Executive Analyst Karl Brauer. “Many consumers still consider a car’s usable lifespan to end at 100,000 miles. But our latest longest-lasting study confirms that even 200,000 miles isn’t the end of the line for many cars. The top nine cars on this year’s list have a better than 20% chance of hitting 250,000 miles.”

10 longest-lasting pickup trucks: Ram 3500 for the win

  2. Toyota Tundra, 36.6%
  3. Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, 29.6%
  4. GMC Sierra 2500HD, 29.1%
  5. Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD, 28.7%
  6. Ford F-350 Super Duty, 28.3%
  7. Ford F-250 Super Duty, 27.4%
  8. Ram 2500, 27.2%
  9. Toyota Tacoma, 26.7%
  10. GMC Sierra 3500HD, 26.0%

The Big Three American automakers had a good showing in the pickups list, as the Stellantis (Ram), GM and Ford brands made up eight of the 10 top spots.

“The long lifespan of heavy-duty trucks inevitably pushes several light-duty models to below average,” said Brauer. “But as noted in our list of the top 30 longest-lasting vehicles, many of these ‘below average’ trucks do quite well when compared to other light-duty vehicles.”

10 longest-lasting SUVs: Toyota brand dominates

  1. Toyota Sequoia, 36.4%
  2. Toyota 4Runner, 26.8%
  3. Toyota Highlander Hybrid, 25.9%
  4. Chevrolet Suburban, 22.0%

  7. Chevrolet Tahoe, 17.7%
  8. Honda Pilot, 17.5%
  9. Toyota Highlander, 15.7%
  10. GMC Yukon, 14.6%

In relation to the Toyota Sequoia, 4Runner and Highlander Hybrid mentioned earlier in the overall category, those vehicles took the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively, for the longest-lasting SUVs.

As iSeeCars.com points out about this year’s list, “SUVs are capable of serving a wide variety of needs, which is why they tend to accumulate more miles than other vehicle types. Most of the longest-lasting SUVs are three-row models, which offer the greatest flexibility in terms of people moving, cargo hauling and trailer towing.”

  5. Toyota Prius, 12.6%
  6. Toyota Camby Hybrid, 11.4%
  7. Lexus ES, 10.6%
  8. Lexus IS, 9.0%
  9. Toyota Corolla, 7.8%
  10. Honda Civic, 7.2%

In terms of cars, the top three remained unchanged from the previous year’s study, as the Toyota Avalon, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry took the top spots again.
The longevity of today’s cars reflects the increasing engineering and build quality across all automakers,” said Brauer. “Buyers may be facing the highest purchase prices in history, but they are also getting the most durable and longest-lasting cars ever sold.”
