Jeep® brand celebrates 75th anniversary with special-edition models

Green with envy.

That may be the feeling you get the first time you see a special-edition 75th anniversary Jeep® brand vehicle wheeling down the road – or up a mountain.

And who could blame you, considering the Jeep model lineup will be offered with exclusive shades of green (exterior) that reflect the brand’s proud military heritage and adventurous reputation – Sarge Green, Recon Green and Jungle Green depending on the model.

“In honor of the brand’s 75th anniversary, we have created eye-catching, special-edition models of each vehicle in our lineup that celebrate the unparalleled history of the legendary Jeep brand,” said Mike Manley, head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global, during the recent announcement.

The brand touts “A lifetime of freedom in a world of adventure” on its 75th anniversary web page.

Jeep production began in 1941 as the Ford GPW and Willys-Overland Motors MB specifically for military use and, ultimately, became the main light four-wheel-drive vehicle of the U.S. Army in World War II. Jeeps have been described as “the oldest mass production vehicles now known as SUVs.”

“Jeep vehicles have defined the authentic SUV and set the benchmark for off-road capability and freedom since they were first produced in 1941,” said Manley.

The anniversary lineup, all of which will be offered in green when the vehicles go on sale sometime in March, comprises the Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited (Sarge Green), Grand Cherokee (Recon), Cherokee (Recon), Renegade (Jungle), Compass (Recon) and Patriot (Recon).

Key features include bronze and orange exterior accents, power dome hood, 17-inch aluminum wheels with low-gloss bronze paint, body-color fender flares and a premium Softrider soft top.

The least expensive models will be the Compass anniversary edition with a starting MSRP of $24,475 for 4X4 models, plus $995 destination fee, Renegade starting at $25,375 and Cherokee at $29,875.

“These special editions strike us as a suitable way to celebrate three quarters of a century of rock-crawling,” wrote Noah Joseph online at autoblog.

All the 75th anniversary models will feature “all the special-edition badges you could ask for.”

If that doesn’t make you green with envy, maybe nothing will.
